Paying for Uber step by step
Use the card like any foreign bank card:
- Add the card in the app: Account → Wallet → Add payment method. Uber may verify it with a small temporary hold.
- When you request a ride Uber holds the estimated fare, then charges the actual fare after the trip and releases the hold.
- Prices and currency are those of the country you ride in; a dollar card converts local currency automatically.
- Tips and fare adjustments may be charged as a separate transaction after the trip.
What can go wrong
If the Uber payment fails, it is usually one of these:
- The ride hold and the final charge sometimes show as two transactions — the hold disappears once the bank processes its release.
- If the balance cannot cover the hold, the ride will not be booked — keep more than the fare on the card.
- An unpaid trip blocks new requests until the balance is settled.
