Paying for Airbnb step by step
Use the card like any foreign bank card:
- Add the card in your profile under Payments → Payment methods, or enter it when booking.
- Usually the full amount is charged when you book. Some stays allow paying part now and the rest closer to check-in — the card must be funded by the second charge date.
- Pick the payment currency in profile settings. With a dollar card, choosing dollars is cheaper.
- A damage deposit, if any, can only be claimed by the host through Airbnb — there is no front-desk hold like in hotels.
What can go wrong
If the Airbnb payment fails, it is usually one of these:
- Before the first booking Airbnb may ask you to verify your identity — payment will not complete without it.
- If the card is short on funds for the second installment, the booking may be cancelled.
- Refunds on cancellation follow the listing's cancellation policy, not the card — read it before paying.
