Paying for YouTube Premium step by step
Use the card like any foreign bank card:
- Subscribe in a browser at youtube.com/premium: the card goes into your Google payments profile and stays on the account.
- Subscribing inside the iPhone app goes through the App Store and usually costs more — the browser is the cheaper route.
- The free month still needs a card: Google places a test authorization and charges the full price when the trial ends.
- On the Family plan only the family manager pays — members don't need a card.
What can go wrong
If the YouTube Premium payment fails, it is usually one of these:
- YouTube Premium does not serve users in Russia: the account may be restricted if the service decides it is used from Russia. The card does not change that.
- Price and availability depend on the country of your Google payments profile. The profile country can be changed only once a year, so pick it carefully.
- If the card country and the address in the payments profile don't match, Google may decline the card — use an address in the card's issuing country.
- Google sometimes rejects prepaid and virtual cards when you add them. After a decline, don't retry many times in a row: repeated attempts raise the risk of a block.
